Birth Control Pills and Breast Implants

Stop Taking Birth Control for Breast Augmentation?

Taking birth control pills prior to breast augmentation surgery may affect the final result. As mentioned earlier, your breasts can revert to its original size once you stop taking the pills. But the length of change is unpredictable.

For some women, it may be within a month or two and sometimes even longer

That is why doctors suggest waiting 6 months after stopping birth control pills before undergoing breast augmentation surgery.

Another reason why doctors suggest stopping birth control pills before breast augmentation because it put the patient in a risk of developing blood clots in the leg veins.

Both the patient and the doctor should decide whether the risks involved warrants going off the pills, and this includes all the downsides (mood changes, skin breakouts, bleeding, etc).

Blood clot formation is also increase in those women who smoke. And this can be dangerous when one undergoes breast augmentation because the clot could travel to the lung.

This is called a pulmonary embolus which can be fatal

If breast augmentation surgery is done in conjunction with other procedures, such as a tummy tuck, birth control pills must be discontinued. A longer operating time put patients at risk for clot formation.

But doctors also say that minor procedures in patients with no elevated risk don’t necessarily need to stop the contraceptives.

Other surgeons also do not recommend stopping the pills before breast augmentation, and rather they use sequential compression stockings to prevent any risk for blood clots.

So before you are taking birth control pills for whatever reason and should you decide to get breast implants in the future, discuss this at length with your surgeon.

There will always be risks and I suggest that you stay on the safe side

Do Birth Control Pills Increase Breast Size?

A lot of women these days are using birth control pills to increase their breast size. They can have the augmentation they want without undergoing painful and risky surgery.

This is due to the hormones progestin and estrogen, which actually causes breast growth. However despite its list of advantages there are also disadvantages involved.

Taking birth control pills is an easy way to enlarge your breasts

However most pills that are available today have low doses of the hormones and only those which contain higher amounts can result to breast enlargement.

If an increase in breast size is your intention for taking these pills, best results can be made possible with a higher dose. It may increase by half a cup or even full size.

This can certainly create a fuller appearance

If you experience an increase in breast size, this will only remain until you stop taking the pills. Once you stop taking them, your breasts will eventually return to its original size.

Even when you are taking these pills for a prolonged period of time, this still would not be able to create permanent change.

However, you must also remember that pills also have its side effects.

This includes weight gain, water retention, spotting in between periods, headaches, nausea and mood swings. Your breasts may become bigger but they might also feel sore or tender at times.
