Tummy Tuck and Liposuction Two in One Surgery

Tummy Tuck and Liposuction Two in One Surgery

We envy those celebrities with washboard or trimmed abs on TV, which we always wind up wishing we could have at least half the figure that they possess.

That is why for those who have developed a significant amount of fats and skin on the midsection an abdominal liposuction or a tummy tuck is the best solution.

Tummy Tuck And Liposuction

Most especially when diet and exercise doesn’t seem to be cutting it

These two are separate procedures but have similar goals, and that is to flatten the stomach. But the process involved differs and they can be highly invasive in nature.

To create a better result, it is said that these two can be combined. But the question now is, would it be safe?

Liposuction is a procedure in which a long, thin, and hollow tube connected to a suction machine is inserted to the abdominal area through a small incision.

The surgeon moves this tube back and forth to dislodge the fats for easy suctioning. In some techniques, the surgeon would even use a solution to liquefy the fats, so they can be suctioned easily.

Tummy tuck on the other hand is done by creating a rather longer scar which runs the entire length of the left to the right hipbone.

Surgeon

Through this opening the surgeon is able to visualize the underlying area as he removes the excess fats, and suture the separated muscle tissue of the abdomen.

The surgeon would also have to remove excess skin and then stretch what remains to make the area smoother and flatter.

As you can see both procedures requires a great deal of invasiveness and along with that is a significant amount of bleeding.

This is one reason why some surgeon’s claim that an abdominal liposuction and a tummy tuck is safe to be done together.

The degree of blood loss in the area can delay the healing process and can create poor results.

Another risk that can be encountered when these two procedures are done together is that it lengthens the operative time.

The longer it takes to finish the surgery the higher the risk for complications

This includes deep vein thrombosis or DVT (clot forming in the deep veins) and pulmonary embolism (when blood clots in the deep veins detach and travel to the lungs).

If liposuction is done on other areas such as the chest, flanks, lower hips and thighs, then performing this together with a tummy tuck won’t create any serious problem.

Even though tummy tuck improves the result of a liposuction by eliminating the excess skin and tightening the area further.

But it is safe to perform the tummy tuck for another session should you opt to have it done, in order to assess first how the abdomen heals after liposuction.

The bottom line here is that combining the two on a single session doesn’t necessarily result to a successful outcome, and it might even create serious complications.

This requires a good judgment call by the surgeon, so make sure that you find one who is experienced and reputable in performing these procedures.
