Poly Impant Prothese To Be Scandals On Practise Cosmetics Surgey

Just last year the breast implant industry was shaken when news broke out that French company, Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) is manufacturing substandard products.

The company was caught under fire more when it was discovered that their breast implants have a high rupture rate.

Adding to that, it exposed women to harmful chemicals that were created detrimental effects to health.

The whole scandal led the company to go in shambles, the owner brought behind bars, and a lot of women highly anxious and fearing for their health.

For an industry that has been under a lot of scrutiny as it is, this issue added brought in more negative image.

Cosmetic surgery is infamously dubbed to be the 'wild west' of medicine because of the poor regulation that it has.

Risk Surgery Practise

This can be evidenced by the number of botched procedures reported on a yearly basis, which only means that those who choose to have it done go through it at their own risk.

But this should not be the case considering that it is an industry that is attracting a lot of clients and raking in millions.

The patients should at least have the assurance that they get safe and quality procedures for the staggering prices that they are paying.

In response to the worldwide breast implant scare, British authorities are taking the next step by asking the public’s thoughts about this.

The health secretary thought that a review should be necessary to check assess if the regulations regarding this practice are strict enough.

Adding to that, plans are also underway to ask the public if they are given adequate information about the surgery.

This is actually a smart move, because what better way to find a solution than to ask those who have been affected by it.

Rules can be properly set and regulations appropriately imposed when specific problems are pointed out.

Prof Sir Bruce Keogh was tasked to head the review and he claimed that the industry has 'some pretty grubby practices going on.'

And sadly this is holds true for any part of the world.

There are some clinics that employ shady practices, which only place the patient at a much higher risk than they already have with these invasive procedures.

Aside from that, there are also practicing surgeons who are not really qualified to perform specific surgeries and yet offer them anyway.

There are a lot of consumers out there who have not grasped the gravity of the situation, which is also one thing that Keogh wants to correct.

There should be emphasis on proper and widespread information dissemination.

In that way the patients are more protected from low quality and high risk results, which in some cases lead to fatal consequences.

In addition to that, people should also know the kind of protection that they can get should something wrong happen with their cosmetic surgery results later on.

Patients themselves should also be proactive when it comes to ensuring their safety should they decide to go under the knife for cosmetic purposes.

Since cosmetic surgery is a loosely guarded practice, and more stringent rules have yet to be set, patients should be more critical on whom to trust and make the effort to do the needed research.
